Moving Can Be Tax Deductible

According to online the IRS website, if you are moving due to a change of job or business location, or because you’re starting a new job you might be able to deduct your moving expenses. To qualify, your new job must be at least 50 miles farther from your old home than your old job location was from your old home. Also, if you’re an employee, you must work at least 39 weeks during the first year right after you arrive in the general area of your job. If you qualify, you’ll be able to deduct the travel costs for yourself and other family members that you accumulated while getting to your new location and the actual moving costs of your personal belongings. If you have record of car expenses while making the trip to your new home, you can also deduct that. You can include parking fees, tolls, fuel charges and repairs.
