According to Kiplinger.com, Austin is number eight (out of 10) on Kiplinger’s 2009 Best Cites List. The article states that while most cities nationwide are posting job layoffs in 2009, the city of Austin has added 3, 300 jobs which is the largest growth in the country. These job openings were in all types of fields from professional services, education and hospitality to health care and government. More jobs in Austin translated to having a 3.37% employment growth compared to 1.3% in the rest of the U.S. And while the unemployment rate is at a national average of 8.6%, Austin’s is significantly lower at 5.8%.

Power and Associates customer survey (studied moves in the U.S. in the past 12 months) said customers were more satisfied with factors like the shipping estimate process, packing, loading and unloading, transportation of belongings and insurance/valuation coverage. Overall satisfaction was up 16 points compared to 2008, averaging 804 on a scale of 1,000 in 2009.
